St. Bonaventure University, as a postsecondary institution that offers a program registered as leading to licensure in occupational therapy, is permitted by New York State Law to offer Occupational Therapy Continuing Competency Courses (CE) to Licensees. An occupational therapist and an occupational therapy assistant who attended each event will engage in 1.0 hours of continuing education and earn 0.1 continuing competency hours (CCHs).

NBCOT allows Competency Assessment Units (CAU) to a certificant who attends workshops, seminars, lectures, professional conferences, or online courses that are approved by a regionally accredited college/university. The CAU value earned for this certification renewal activity is 1.0 units.

Occupational Therapy’s Role in Supporting Mental Health and Wellness for Rural Practitioners Presented by Dr. Darla Kent, BRIGHT Project Director and MSOT Program Director

Overview: This introductory session will provide evidence-based resources for rural clinicians to address mental health needs across a wide variety of traditional and emerging areas of practice. Practical strategies will be offered to advance and advocate for OT as a critical resource to address disparities in rural mental health.

Objectives:

• Participants will be able to identify rural health disparities in mental health access across a variety of settings (early intervention, schools, outpatient rehabilitation, telehealth, etc.).
• Participants will be able to describe evidence-based strategies for addressing mental health disparities.
• Participants will be able to advocate for OT’s role in promoting mental health and addressing concerns across various settings.

Time: 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.

School and clinical mental health counselors who attended each event will engage in 1.0 hour of continuing education and earn 1.0 continuing education unit (hour) (CEUs).
