St. Bonaventure University offers merit-based scholarships to transfer students based on their cumulative college GPA. Students who do not meet the listed GPA criteria will be reviewed individually for other grants and institutional aid.

Transfer Merit Scholarships

Friar Scholarship

Transfer students with a cumulative college GPA of 3.5 or higher may qualify for the Friar Scholarship. The annual award is $24,000 for resident students and $18,000 for commuter students.

Provost Scholarship

Transfer students with a cumulative college GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 may qualify for the Provost Scholarship. The annual award is $22,000 for resident students and $16,500 for commuter students.

Achievement Scholarship

Transfer students with a cumulative college GPA between 2.25 and 2.99 may qualify for the Achievement Scholarship. The annual award is $19,000 for resident students and $14,250 for commuter students.

Phi Theta Kappa / Honor Scholarship

Students who have demonstrated academic excellence through membership in Phi Theta Kappa or another recognized academic honor society may qualify for an additional $500 scholarship.

Students must provide proof of membership to receive the award. This scholarship is renewable annually and may be awarded in addition to a transfer merit scholarship.

Students choosing to live off campus will have their merit scholarship reduced by 25%.

Transfer scholarships are applied toward tuition and fees.

Transfer scholarships require full-time attendance.

Generally, a student cannot receive a transfer scholarship from more than one category, with the exception of the Phi Theta Kappa / Honor Scholarship.

We aim to make your transfer experience to St. Bonaventure as easy and convenient as possible. We have a rolling admissions process, which means you can apply anytime. Our admissions decision is based on your performance in college as a student and individual. The majority of our transfer applicants have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. However, the best way to determine if a student is a good fit for St. Bonaventure (and vice versa) is through an on-campus interview. It is encouraged that all applicants contact our Transfer Coordinator, however, it is especially important for those students whose cumulative GPA is below or around a 2.5.

We accept most credits from accredited colleges and universities as long as a C or better has been earned in the course. Find out how your courses will transfer. If your cumulative GPA is above a 2.5 we can accept all of the credits that you earned.

Students who have earned an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree will be considered to have satisfied the following requirements of the General Education Requirement: BONA 101, ENG 101, and ENG 102.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above can be granted credit for all previous coursework in which they have received a passing grade. Courses receiving grades below a C will require the approval of the dean of the school to which the student has applied. All decisions regarding transfer credit will be made by the appropriate academic dean and confirmed by the registrar, subject to the approval of the vice president for academic affairs. Please note that the above policy does not apply to matriculated students or those who seek readmission to St. Bonaventure.

Quality points are not transferred; hence, the cumulative index or grade point average for graduation is computed only on the basis of quality points earned at St. Bonaventure.
