The Department of Mathematics hosted the fall 2023 meeting of the Mathematical Association of America Seaway Section. The conference ran Oct. 13 and 14.

The Department of Mathematics hosted the fall 2023 meeting of the Mathematical Association of America Seaway Section. The conference ran Oct. 13 and 14.
The event brought together nearly 60 mathematics faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, and professionals from more than 20 schools and organizations.
Following the Friday evening banquet, Dr. Hossein Shahmohamad of Rochester Institute of Technology gave an informative and immensely entertaining talk on 鈥淕raphs and Their Potent Energy.鈥 Shahmohamad鈥檚 visit was supported by the 天涯社区官网
Visiting Scholars Committee. After the banquet talk, students competed in math trivia games organized by Dr. Ryan Gantner of St. John Fisher University.
The conference continued on Saturday with numerous talks and a student poster session, offering a fascinating cross-section of mathematical topics. The local organizers of the meeting were Dr. Maureen Cox, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Chris
Hill, assistant professor and department chair; and Dr. Christine Uhl, associate professor of mathematics.
St. Bonaventure last hosted a meeting of the Seaway Section in the fall of 2011. The Mathematical Association of America is the world鈥檚 largest organization dedicated to undergraduate mathematics instruction. In the United States and Canada, the
MAA comprises 29 sections. St. Bonaventure is part of the Seaway Section, which includes portions of New York, Ontario, and Quebec.
