天涯社区官网 to offer new major in Healthcare Management
St. Bonaventure University鈥檚 School of Business will offer a new major in Healthcare Management beginning this fall, providing students with an interdisciplinary business education tailored to the rapidly evolving healthcare industry.
Approved this month by the New York State Education Department, the Bachelor of Business Administration program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in healthcare administration, health systems management, healthcare finance, medical practice operations and related fields.
The new major blends core business disciplines with specialized healthcare coursework focused on management, finance, law, ethics, information systems and healthcare delivery. The program reflects growing workforce demand for professionals who understand both business strategy and the complexities of modern healthcare organizations.
Healthcare is one of the nation鈥檚 largest and fastest-growing employment sectors, creating strong demand for professionals with both business and healthcare expertise.
鈥淗ealthcare is one of the most complex and rapidly changing industries in the world, said Dr. Matrecia James, dean of the School of Business. 鈥淭his program prepares students to lead with both business expertise and a strong sense of ethical responsibility, which is essential in today鈥檚 healthcare environment.鈥
Students in the program will complete courses such as Introduction to Healthcare Management, Healthcare Information Systems, Healthcare Delivery Systems, Healthcare Law and Organizational Ethics, Human Resource Management in Healthcare, and Healthcare Financing.
The curriculum also includes internships and experiential learning opportunities designed to help students connect classroom concepts with real-world healthcare settings.
According to the program proposal, the Healthcare Management major integrates the School of Business鈥檚 Franciscan values throughout the curriculum, emphasizing ethical leadership, social responsibility and compassionate service.
University officials said the major aligns with broader industry trends as healthcare organizations increasingly seek professionals with expertise in operations, technology, policy and organizational leadership.
鈥淥ur goal is to develop graduates who understand that effective healthcare leadership is about more than operations and finance,鈥 James said. 鈥淚t is about people, service, innovation and making decisions that positively impact individuals and communities.鈥
The program will be housed in the AACSB-accredited School of Business and supported by faculty with backgrounds in finance, economics, business systems, management and healthcare-related fields.
